There's a typo in the welcome email: "his site is currently in betat esting which means that we are still adding features and putting the finishing touches."

"Betat esting" should be fixed, and I'm pretty sure it should read "putting on the finishing touches."

Thanks Eliezer! I just posted an update that fixed those issues.

Using Chrome, I logged in to the site. Then, while still logged in, I clicked an opsci link in my email (http://opsci.org/collections/35), and it brought me to a sign in screen instead of to the appropriate location. Presumably a cookie should have been set so I wouldn't have to log in twice. This seems to be a bug, although I haven't bothered testing it in another browser.

You shouldnt have to enter your login more than once during an active session using a browser. This works on other browsers but for some reason Chrome doesnt remember login information if you open a link in a new window (but it does work if you open the link in a new tab for some reason). I was planning on adding a 'remember me' function so I'll try and bump that up on the priority which will likely fix this issue with Chrome too.

If anyone is using an older version of Internet Explorer (IE 6/7) or running IE in 'compatability mode' then you might experience some issues with the site. I'm working on making everything backwards compatable but older IE browsers love to throw curve balls. If you notice anything not working properly, please post it here.

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said about 1 year ago
IE 6/7 browser compatibility issues should be resolved as of the latest update so if you still notice something out of place, please post it here.

I think i deleted the CNBC reference. I tried to unfollow it from my profile but it may have deleted it, which I shouldn't be able to do.

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said about 1 year ago
that's how it works by design. References are tricky because 'following' them actually creates a new reference record. If you unfollow, it deletes that record. it was designed like since you might have made a mistake adding a reference and wouldnt want an incorrect reference floating around the site after you unfollowed it.

but your point is well taken. i think i'm going to have to redesign it to allow you to unfollow or delete based on user preference.
Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said about 1 year ago
hey matt, i just updated the code so that you can now 'delete' a reference or simple 'remove' it from the item it is linked to.
Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said about 1 year ago
Just a note: there are some display problems when using older version of Internet Explorer on the latest update to the site. I should have them resolved later today...

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said about 1 year ago
Ok, i posted another update that should resolve all issues regarding cross-browser support. If you notice anything that looks out of place, please post it here so i can take a look.

The ability to add references/topics from the group level.
Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said over 2 years ago
hmmm... reading a stream of comments with the most recent first is kind of not so easy. i wonder if showing the newest at the bottom would be easier to read. but then new comments get buried at the bottom of the page.

On http://opsci.org/references it'd be nice to be able to add from the list of references to my collections easily. A "+" sign next to the article that opens up to the menu that we're given when we "follow" a topic?

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said over 2 years ago
so you're able to add to collections when viewing the reference but you're saying you'd like to be able to do that 'inline' in the reference listings like you can with topics? I can add something like that pretty easily, just have to figure out a clean way of listing the collections once you click on the '+' sign...
Justine Lam, Internet Strategist said over 2 years ago
Yep, I'd like to add to collections inline like I can with topics.

What is the purpose of the little squares (yellow when you click) in the discussion stream? I like em, not sure how to use em?!

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said over 2 years ago
haha... yeah there's no explanation on the site about them yet and a little square isnt very descriptive. i planned those to be a way to 'flag' a comment for personal reference so you can go back to it later. in order for it to be useful though i need to add a way for you to search for flagged comments (that's in the works).

along the lines of 'flagging' a comment for personal reference, i think i should also add an ability to indicate that a comment was good somehow, so that others can see comments that are highly rated (maybe a lightbulb icon that you click if you like it). Then as the discussion becomes lengthy, users can search for highly rated comments to quickly search. this is already implemented on sites like digg.com for example. Also, another site that has a very good implementation is http://stackoverflow.com/ I use this site a lot actually for programming help.
Matthew Keener, MD said over 2 years ago
Agreed. the stackoverflow is great. I like how you end up rating the people as a result as well. This goes back to the computer programming idea we were talking about, in that this might be a lowhanging fruit where we could generate lots of small answerable topics, questions, SMALL prizes/subcontracts.
Matthew Keener, MD said over 2 years ago
would you suggest linking to one's other sites (linkedin, personal website, etc) on the user's page, and if so where would one do this? Does this detract at this point?

Armen Arevian, MD, PhD said over 2 years ago
Yeah I thought aout that. you can always add those links in a collection called 'my other sites' or something. But I should probably make it so that you can also just add a few directly to your profile...
